EGR Valve / Solenoid

I just removed my EGR valve.. it was very dirty... i just degreased it for a good 30 minutes...

I can move the diphram thing up and down, and seems like it is a working part...
i push it up and it automatically / quickly push's right back down.... you can hear the pressure...

So what things can i do to test the solenoid ?

If the EGR valve was dirty as hell.... would this trigger my service engine soon light ?

... i just did some serious wonder's to this EGR valve..

now im going to clean the other end of this part.... the manifold... clean that reallll good...

i hope this is gonna fix my car....

Hopefully your manifold is truly clean and all ur problem was was a dirty egr valve.. I kno my passages in the intake were plugged aswell, but luckely when i put on the new manifold it solved that issue..

First off, what engine/trans do you have? There are different ways that systems are tested. The best way is a vacuum gauge. You can change and poke and prod all you want, but without seeing if the valve is actually getting vacuum, you are still in the dark.

yah i dont have a vaccumm gauge...

but i cleaned the 2 little inlet's on the manifold.... with a cup of degreaser,, using a toothbrush , and a sponge.. to clean off the mess...

i did it like 40 times and got real vigourous with it....

but today when i was finishing up my lil project...

I took off the spark plug wire which connected my COIL, to the middle of the distributor cap..

all the connections on the distributer cap are clean and look very healthy..

how ever on the other end of the "middle spark plug wire on the dist cap"

i disconnected it at the "coil" it was a "4 inch" wire...

i lookd at the connection on both sides (the coil's connection) and (the 4 inch plug) both very RIDICULOUSly corroded....... and brittle...
the 4inch plug actually broke in half and looked like TRUE CRAP

i dont kno the name of this part.. but im off to the store in a few hours to grab a new wire... maybe this will fix my problem too.. who knows.. but today is my birthday and im prayin for some sort of miracle covered in grease

Could someone tell me where the egr valve is on my 1988 gta 5.0
I bought the part but don't know where is to change it. Also, is it hard to change? Thank you. Ryan

.....

for Fbodies
there are 4 types of EGR valves.

I have aTPI ... sso unless u have a TPI./. they might differ.. im not sure

I recomment locating a vaccuum hose which Leans into the MANIFOLD.. on top of the engine somehow...

all vacuum hose's lead to the EGR.. then determine which kind u have.. by doing a bit of research.. and then get at the valve by taking the right parts off.. unbolt it.. and clean the **** out of it..

I used a .99 cent bottle of degreeaser to clean mine.. or buying a new one for my car was $135.00

I dont think it will ever be worth $135 on any day of the week.. no matter what...

but if u can clean it sooog ood.. where it stops sticking .. and it moves freely by itself then ur golden..

also it helps replacing the vacuum hose's since the heat from the engine and certain climates break them down.. ur car is 15 years old.... remind u

also make sure ur solenoid is working properly anmds ur manifold is kinda clean inside.. and not dirty
