87 formula - ccrochester - not running right

i got an 87 formula 305 with a brand new rochester comuputer controlled 4barrel.

its very hard starting... when it does start it runs crappy, when i rev it up it stalls/ bogs and dies, making it very very hard to restart. If and when it does idle in park , the service engine soon light flashes, but will go away... there are no trouble codes to pull.... it smokes bad out the exhaust.

I have already replaced the mechanical fuel pump, and installed a remanufactured Rochester computer controlled carb...
what could be causing this? and ideas and help greatly appreciated!!

  1. Check your spark plugs. See if there are any wet ones (not firing).
  2. Check your plug wires.
  3. Check your distributor cap and rotor.
  4. Remove your Spark Control Module under the distributor rotor and take it to your local autozone to have it check out.
  5. Make sure you are getting a 12 code out of the ECM.
