What am i missing here?

to the left of the air cleaner, the black thing on the firewall has two pipes, one near the top, and one near the bottom, coming out of it.
the pipes just end, and nothing is attached/hooked up to them
ive seen pics of other camaro's engine bays and theres a silver cylinder in that area
what is it?

Someone removed your A/C compressor, and the dryer from the looks of it. If they went to that extent, then your condenser is probably gone as well (it sits in front of the radiator). The open fittings you see are connected to the evaporator core, which will come out if you remove the top half of the black box.

It depends on the model year, as the A/C setups changed somewhat. You will have to get a new dryer if it's exposed to the open air for too long of a time. As long as the compressor turns with the clutch engaged, you should be OK.

yea but you may want to watch out for crud if your going to use any of the components that are still in your car.

Im not sure as to how a guy would go about flushing any gunk out of the condensor or evaporator. but theirs gotta be a way...

If he gets everything from a sealed system, there shouldn't be a problem. if he intends to reuse the evaporator in his car, then take an air chuck and blow it out.

Yea, i was going to say you may as well take everything from the sealed system so you know theirs no gunk in it.

Transmission: Caged hamster that runs really fast
Axle/Gears: They are round, I know that much
Most junkyards take the refridgerant out of the system before the cars go out on the lot, and many times the yards will take the dryer out too, so there maybe a lot of gunk in the system.

Also note whether it has been switched over from a R12 system to a R134-A system, because it will make it hella easier trying to recharge the system.

BTW, why do you want that power robbing crapola on your engine??

Maybe it is just me, but AC bothers me in my Camaro.

The core is bypassed... OR missing. See the orange heater hose that is draped over the passenger strut tower.... Normally, that would go to the heater core..

Check the firewall directly to the right of the blower box, and see if you can see two little brass fitting coming out.

Yeah, when i get paid i plan on replacing the air filter, plugs, wires, hoses, oil, flushing the coolant, all that ****.

probably gonna get a/c parts and heater core from a donor car

and i happened to find a clutch pedal in my car yesterday, i was sitting in it for the hell of it (its not licensed yet, so i cant exactly drive it)
with no shoes on and i felt it tucked underneath the carpet
kinda pisses me off, i wish it was still a manual

the clutch pedal matches the brake and gas pedals, and its pretty well worn so im betting it came stock

btw, there isnt any room under the hood for a thicker air filter, the top of the air cleaner already makes contact with the hood when its closed

Yep, someone butchered you car by removing the AC and bypassing the heater core, and worst of all by putting an Auto trans in it.

Won't hurt... Just pull off the passenger side plastics and make sure it istn leaking. Or, you can try to pressure test the core.

It's bypassed for a reason, more than likely it's bad and leaking, you could get coolant all over your floorboard if you just hook it back up.

BUT
if i put some sort of pan under the dash...
that would work right? if it leaks, the pan will catch the coolant
and whatever i lose i can put back, ive got some extra coolant in my garage incase id ever need it....

the core is a two hour job to replace tops if you have to knowledge and the tools. As far as the A/C stuff you'd have to start from scratch. The first thing I see is the alternator mounted where the compressor usually would sit. If you can get the heater going you'll be lucky. Anything else and you've just got the bonus plan going. Time to find an a/c delete box to replace all that evaporator box and just get it over with
