Morning sickness & hesitation

Ok, my car, an 89 Trans Am GTA has always had this "morning sickness" problem. When its cold, it hesitates and dies without getting a good dose of gas. Once it warms up it runs great. Some people have told me that possibly my MAF is bad? Any suggestions??

If the MAF was bad I would assume it would run bad warm too?...I would start with checking for engine codes..even if you dont have a "service engine soon" light on there still might be a intermittent code to help pinpoint the problem. The other would be to check fuel pressure..

Does that motor have a cold-start injector? Stuck EGR valve and malfunctioning IAC also come to mind.

I agree with Nixon as above. If there is a cold start injector perhaps its sticking open and running rich, when you gas it the butterfly opens and lets enough air to lean it out. The ECM would go nuts trying to compensate for that, and once the O2 sensor warms up and the ECM starts actually listening to sensors then when CTS reports a warm engine and shuts off the extra injector..... its suddenly fixed.

I would instantly go check IAC for cleanness and operation, and check and clean the EGR passages for blockages. (Rifle cleaning kit for the win )

The ECM doesn't listen to the MAF when cold, just unplug it and the ECM will use a standard fuel table. It'll also ignore several sensors.
