PLZ HELP SOON.... starting problem

OK so my motor is finally done after soooooo long and sooo much $$.

well i went to start the puppy the otherday and it ate my starter alive. kinda cranked funny twice and then chewed one of the reduction gears in the starter.

$85 later and i had the starter rebuilt.... thought it was just the starter so i give it another go.

cranks funky again and lets out a gear grind noise. hit the switch for little bumps and the motor goes fine. hold it to start and it seems too slow and it goes about 4 cranks and grinds.

stop again. double check spark plug wires( all ok) and I try it again...

cranks fine this time but no start and seems a bit slow. got about 8-10 revolutions and it grinds the starter again.

I have spark but no tach signal ( couldn't check the wiring yet ). I had to remove the baseplate to my carb to "break loose" the idle-eze screw and put it back on just fine.

I'm going to double check my valve adjustments but I'm 90% sure its not crashing valves because i can turn it over by hand.

I'm also going to remove my spark plugs to see if it has loaded up on fuel and hydra-locked. I hope that's not it but I can't be sure, i dont think so because it will randomly crank fine for a lil while like 8-10 revolutions then problem reappears.

PLEASE HELP, I'M ON THE VERGE OF GIVING UP ON STARTING MY $5000+ investment here

Is your timing too far advanced?

i had it set at what i believe to be 0* and tried playing with it. Didn't seem to help but I'll double check. I assume you are talking about IGN timing.

My girlfriend has an 81 delta 88 that did the same thing. I kept rebuilding the starter cause replacing the broken bendix was cheaper than replacing the whole starter...but it kept screwing up. Turns out that the solenoid was bad.
