I seem to remember a guy telling me GM made some 1 piece rear main seal, hydraulic roller 400s for Suburbans. Does anyone know if this is right?

If not, what does it take to convert a 400 to run in a manual trans f-body with a hydraulic roller cam?

Thanks,

Sean

All GM 400's are the old 2 piece rear main seal type. All used flat tappet cams.

You'd need a 400 externally balanced manual trans flywheel. and a "retro fit" hyd roller cam kit. Modify the timing cover (re-inforce for cam button stop) and use a cam button.

You'll need a oil pan from say a 1969 chevelle 350. Old truck pans will not fit the thirdgen cars.

you can use a pan from a 2pc 305 or 350 also like the ones in the older camaros, as for flywheel, you can use any neutral balanced flywheel (thirdgen flywheel) 2pc seal of course with a balancer plate that is sold by summit

retrofit roller cam, lifters, cam button and thrust plate, or a reinforced timing cover an dyour ready to go
