did my gas tank today
awful. that sums it up. i got it done and it came apart very easily. my car is a north carolina car. it is very clean. all the bolts came apart with no problem. the problem is, that there is so much that has to come apart and go back together. and getting that gas tank positioned correctly and getting the straps to bolt up and getting the fill neck positioned properly were all very challanging tasks. some prevous owner screwed up the lip and end of the fill neck. if i put more than 10 bucks and a time in the tank it would leak around the fill neck. i can now fill my tank to the max and it not leak. i wonder how much less i will have to spend on gas now that it doesnt leak or evaporate? i will be driving the car from buffalo, ny to dayton ohio 15 bucks at a time wont cut it. im going to the US air force musuem and the dayton ohio airshow. its going to rock road trip in a third gen what could be better? i did have some questions however. when i removed my exhuast i noticed that the pipes are starting to get some holes. what do you guys recommend i do? i could get a cat back dynomax exhuast with a superturbo mufler for 278.00 or same with ultraturbo stainless steal mufler for 350. or should i just replace cat with high flow think about headers, Y pipe, and a cat back? would would the total cost be for something like that? also i noticed my shocks are a little worn out. what is a good shock and how much should i expect to pay for new rear shocks? shocks arent a diffcult job and the car would ride better. i dont want supper expensive but i dont want cheap either.

Not sure on your exhaust ?, but how long did it take to do your tank. Did you replace the fuel pump? I was thinking of using a 1LE tank when I do mine. Does anyone know if they make aftermarket replacement ones, or will I need to look in the Junk yards/classifieds?

i used the fuel pump that was already in the car. i bought the car from an impound lot, it sat for 4 years. the owner of the impound lot(where i bought the car) said he replaced the fuel pump because it wouldnt start. so i used the one i had, strainer also looked fairly new. i dont want to spend money where i dont need to. when the pump is running it sounds decent. i have other things i need to buy. catback exhuast for sure, maybe high performance cat headers and a Y pipe. new shocks and struts, interior components headliner, new seat appolstry, visors, sail panels, carpet. maybe then i get the car painted. im also going to need new tires eventually. my car is very solid, rust free, and runs strong. but there is still so many other things that need to be replaced and redone. you know that goes with any old car that you want to fix up. no matter how solid it is there are still lists of things that need to be replaced. i work on it every weekend and im only "tipping the icebirg". its different when you buy a car for a jalopy and you just want to run it into the ground. but my car is special for me. its MY third gen, and i love it very much. so its well worth what i paid for the car and ill be putting more than the purchase price into it without thinking twice about it.
p.s. what is the difference with a 1LE tank? i didnt know it was unique

It's got baffles that prevent fuel starvation during hard turns when you have 1/4 tank or less.

Replacing the fuel tank...
Been there, done that, gotta do it again on the 87 IROC.
Just hope the fuel pump that was in it doesnt fail, I had to drop the one in my 91RS 3 times to fix the thing. Ended up buying a new pump and haven't had a problem since.
