l03 coils and module questions

im thinking of replacing my coil and my module becuase my car has a rare habit of acting up. i have a hunch that its an igintion problem. im thinking of either going with an acel module and an MSD coil. would i notice any performance gains? or should i stick with a stock replacement?

MSD makes good stuff, no problems with using their products, just make sure you get the right part for your application.

I've heard negatives about the reliability of Accel parts. Maybe risky there. I had an Accel coil crap out on my car about 7 or 8 years ago.

I'd also say avoid Pertronix. In the last 4 months, I've had 2 Pertronix HEI modules die on me. Both times stranding me on the freeway with a dead engine. Last time was a few days ago, and it was like friggin 106 degrees outside. I had to sit there and sweat for 2 hours until the engine cooled down enough so I could work on it without burning my hands. Thank God that I had my old OEM module and a screwdriver in the glove box. No more Pertronix for me, I don't trust them to make a reliable product. And yes, before anyone asks, I did have the bottom of the module clean and greased with heatsink compound.

For ignition components, you absolutely must have dead reliable parts. If one fails, you stop where you are until you can fix or replace it. No fun, particularly on triple digit days.

I had 2 Accel modules go out on me and neither one lasted more than 100 miles or so. I just put a GM high performance dizzy and components in my engine and I have put over 500 miles on it now with no problems.
