valve adjust on lt1
i am putting a lt1 motor together for a friend. he has had the block sent out to las vegas machine and they have made the 350 into a 383. i installed the heads , timing chain , and lifters rockers and cam. he bought new cam, springs lifters and a set of roller rockers all from comp cam,s. the problem i,m having is after adjusting the valves i am getting a slight side to side movement on the rockers. is this normal? i have adjusted and readjusted sevrel times so i,m sure the adjustment is correct. any advise will help. tom comp cam#07-501-8 springs#26918-16

Don't!!!
Just remove your valve cover again and follow this
1st: Loose all the valve about 2 or 3 turns, and begin whit side 1 3 5 7!!;
2nd: Turn engine clockwise till the exhaust valve of the cylinder 1 start open, then you are ready to adjust intake valve of this cylinder;
3rd : Whit two finger, gently turn the pushrod will you tighten the rocker arm, when you feel some resistance then the free play should be taken then you turn for an other 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn
4th: Repeat this procedure for exhaust valve and other cylinder!!
5th : DON'T REAJUSTE VALVE THAT YOU HAVE ALL READY ADJUST BY JUDGING THAT THEY LOOK LOOSE, LIFTER WILL SIT DOWN AND CAN COMFUSE YOU, IF YOU DO THAT YOU WILL BULL*HIT ALL YOUR HARD WORK
6th: Take your time, It a cool job to do whit a cold beer, Don't try to save time and do it cylinder by cylinder,
7th: Take a ride and enjoy
Hope this hell you!!!

By the way if you are broking-in a new Cam
For the first start and ride, Adjust all your valve like if you was having solid-lifter, Adjust it all whit .010'' to .015'' of free play, It will make a bit noisy valve-train but will permit some cam broke-in oil to stay on the lobe and can save you some costly cam change!!!
You are better to stay whit you cheap spring for broke-in procedure
I also recommend AC-DELCO oil supplement for broke-in and at all oil change (I don’t remember parts #)
Go to a Performance Shop and Buy some KENDALL or like those racing oil, they contain much more stuff!!
Enjoy your RIDE
