Cylinder head question

In in the process of purchasing a pair of cylinder heads and to be honest my lack of experience is causing a problem !

The engine is a 350 tht has been bored .030" over and is running forged pistons , these , i take it they are dished ? i'm in the U.K and my machinist brought them for the boring.

the problem im having is selecting a set of assembled heads that will fit my application , i'm hoping to reach around the 350bhp with a comp cam XE274 cam and i understand i need a set of heads that will accomodate the lift ?

My aim is to run a CR of about 10.5 : 1 and i'm not sure how to gage this , presumably the size of the chambers is key and i was looking at heads with 64's

Please dont flame me for my retarded post but i've read loads but understood little. Any examples of heads would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Craig

Some of the more expeienced members on here will be able to name some cylinder heads for your application, however what I can tell you is that the piston in the picture is not dished, it's flat top. The small "dishes" are the valve reliefs.

Where in the UK are you?

well thats me first question answered lol. flat top hey well that i presume will up my CR

I'm down in Cornwall mate , and you ?

I've just been checking past posts and the modified scoggon dicky vortec heads seem a safe bet and will accomodate the lift of the XE274 cam , also i have to purchase a inlet anyway so that package seems very reasonable. On ebay there seems to be a huge amount of heads and to be honest i'm after the cheapest set possible without buying junk , i'm not being tight it just that with shipping added on top it bumps the price up loads

I'm in Portsmouth.

Yes the flat top pistons will help with the compression rate. Have a look for people who have fitted standard Chevy 305 heads to the 350. I think this gives a good CR but you might have to get a second opinion. Obviously any standard heads will have to be ported & polished....

What's the part # on the piston, or do you know the cc's for the valve reliefs? Also, what octane gas do you plan on running? 10.5:1 is too much for iron heads.

Seems like most heads less than 180 cc seem to work best on the street. Everything else seems more geared towards racing. Not saying you cant run bigger heads on the street but it just seems overkill and unecessary when a smaller port head will make all the power you would ever need.
