v6 - v8 fuel pump the same?

Hey guys, I have an 88 305 that seems to have some fuel pump issues as it looks like the previous owner direct wired the pump to the fuse block, it ran for while and now I hear nothing from the pump when the ignition is on and the car will not start. I also have an 86 2.8 parts car and I was wondering if the pumps are same as well as the relays cause im assuming thats what caused the previous owners to direct wire this thing. anything else I should check for/know about on this issue? Thanks

I'm 90% sure the pumps are the same, if they are for fuel injected cars. Call up your local parts store and ask them to make sure.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

From the factory the pumps were different for different inductions - TPI, TBI, SPFI. The aftermarket sometimes sold the same TPI pump for all of the applications - works fine that way, and an upgrade for TBI and SPFI. So, don't trust the local parts store for information about what's in a 2.8 car.
