Is your car stock? Vacuum would be my bet, as the "switcher" is vacuum controlled. Any cam or timing mods to your engine?

Timnig or camming your motor will not really effect it.. not sure what year your car is but in know that on all three of mine right above the power brake booster there is a little black blox with a vacuum line and then a hard plastic line. the vac line goes to a manifold vac, the hard plastic line goes into the car and connects to a hose on the back of the vent controls.. also.. there are 3 vacuum diaphrams. that actually open the doors (the control is just routing the vacuum) One of the diaphrams is on the passengerside of the car by the kickpanel... the other two are under the dash behind the center console near the firewall.. if any of the Diaphrams are crapped out that door will not work...so it will be closed.. Most common problem is that plastic line to the thing though.. if it breaks which it is likely to do.. then it will default to defrost.. as that is the default configuration, since it is a saftey thing. Hope that helped some
