Oil pressure

I have a 89 RS with a 305 and the oil pressure gauge is always at 5 or 0 mostly 0 the car runs perfect with no smoking leaking or engine noises. Isn't there a sending unit that could be causing this or what? I am kinda curious because I had a 91 RS with a 3.1 that did the same thing. Can someone fill me in on the cause and repair of this.

Thanks

It's usually the sending unit that goes bad. You can verify the oil pressure by hooking up a mechanical gage, but the chances are very good that replacing he sending unit will bring the gage back into proper function.
