its driveable with out it.
but you will get a check engine light. the EGR valve solenoid is what the computer uses to the control the EGR valve.
the EGR system is for emissions & can also help to increase fuel mileage.

DENN - In trying to trouble shoot my Code 32 issue...the good book says to apply 10mgs to the manifold side of the solenoid...I am unable to verify which port that is...it may not have been installed correctly. Is it the port with the metal reducer or the wide open one? Again the manual just assumes you know which is which.
Thanks,

billybob6110, a properly working EGR valve doesn't add or cost any power.
if it is working right the only time it is open is under cruise or light to medium acceleration.
Jays92Camaro, im not sure, but i think the port that is metal is the vent port.
you may want to go the the parts house & look at a new solenoid, if the new one has a piece of foam on it, that will be the vent port. when the solenoid isn't turned on the port that goes to the EGR valve is open to the vent port
& the vacuum port is closed.
also, the solenoid can check good, but still be bad. it may not open once it get hot or may stick open when hot. thats why i always recommend replacing them when i put on a new EGR valve.
to check the valve to see if it is a back pressure type of valve, put a piece of vacuum hose on it & suck on the hose, if it opens then that valve isn't a pressure type valve.
