code 42

OK so my car keeps giving me a code 42 which is Ignition system problem , electric spark timing(EST) Circuit Fualt. its a 84 t/a with a rebuilt 305. Its got a new distributor and knock sensor. I'm leaning towards the computer, but I dont want to buy somethign that isn't going to fix the problem. Also it gets **** gas milage now since that code has come up and my plugs apear to be fouled from having too much gas. So does anyone have any suggestions? It would be much appreciated

Is the 4 wire connector connected at the distributor? That's the one to disconnect for initial timing. Otherwise it may be a wiring problem or module problem. I doubt it's the computer. Bad wiring connections are the hardest to find.

yeah that connection is good and tight. And my worse fear is it being a wiring problem.
