87 305 TPI engine
does any one know where i cud get one from? i plan to restore my 87 Z28, not really looking for any type of performance upgrades for it, and i keep looking but i always come across the 5.7 not the 5.0, and i thought about putting the 350 in it, but i dont feel like dealing with messin with the computer or ne thing, i cud also use a good price estimate, , cuz like i said b4 i cant find that motor ne where
the story behind the origional engine, is that it overheated on me, really bad, and the block has a huge crack in it now

I think the 305 TPI blocks are all the same from 87-92. You could probably fine one on ebay, or the classified ads on this board. I would pay no more than 300 for a used one or 700 for a rebuilt one. By why not just toss a 350 in? They cost about the same, they obviously make more power stock, and You wouldnt really have to do all that much different to get it running good.

search online for engine warehouses: (hiperformerengine, goautoengines, golen engines, etc.)
The time is ripe to go with a 350 if you are doing the swap now, but itll cost you an extra grand in parts and other BS that was unforseen.
Oh..and the cams are different between 87-92 305's.
I wanna say they were all roller engines too, but thats just off the top of my head. I cant remember exactly what year they left the flat tappet behind.

Yeah thats right, the cams are different. The 305's TPI's matched with 5 speeds got the more aggressive cam, while all TBI motors had the peanut cam. I think there are slightly different cylinder heads ports too. But I know for sure that the 1st year for the roller cam was in 87, but some of the 87 cars still have the flat tappet, non roller blocks.

i do keep second guessing myself on wether or not to go with the 350, instead of the 305, cuz i dont know how long im going to have the car, so idk which engine is going to help with the re-sale, but then on the other hand, i do like the 350 alot, and i may keep the car for the rest of my life, lol
and i know the 85 tpi got probbaly the best cam which gave the 305, i wanna say, 225 horsepower and 280-285 lbs of torque, the 86 had the weakest at 190 hp, and 275lbs torque, and the 87 only pushed 190 hp, but 290-295 lbs of torque,
now im gonna b lookin out for both eninges, but as of now im leaning towards the 350, after rethinking, lol

85-flat tappet "L98-like" cam. 205-215hp and 275 tq
86-flat tappet "peanut" cam. 190hp and 295tq
87-roller cam "peanut" cam 190hp and 295tq
87-89 -roller cam "L98" manual TPI only 200hp and 300tq
90-92-roller cam "all TPI cars got the L98 cam" 200-225hp and 300tq
If you ever were to dyno an auto TPI car from 90-92, you it would show that the Lb9 was a bit underrated. Mine dynoed with 80k on the motor 187whp and 270wtq. So assume 20% DT loss, that's around 230crank hp and 320 crank torque. Not much of an underation, but one nonetheless.
You can put a 350 in your car w/o spending much more money at all. The computer can withstand a 10-15% increase in size w/o affecting much. You might run richer because the computer is still thinking it has 19lb injectors eventhough the 350 has the 22lbers. That is unless you get yours rebuilt with a 350 block, then nevermind. Just make sure to replace the knock sensor with a 350 one.
