Tranny problems after engin swap

Ok, so about 5 months ago my 305 tbi car started knocking, we thought it might have been the flywheel so we dropped the transmission. Turned out it was the engine. The tranny sat hanging under the car up until about a month ago when we hooked it back up to the 305 but it wouldn't shift out of first. I didn't pay much attention to it bacause I was about to put a new engine in and I figured it was something simple anyway. Well, we pulled the 305 put in a 350 using the 305 tbi equipment and chip(for now) and it still didn't shift out of 1st (not that i really expected it to). Over the past couple of weeks I've found a couple of vacum leaks and plugged them and played with the detent cable. I even replaced the detent cable. It will shift all the way to 3rd now...but I can't get it into overdrive. I have no clue what's going on. Help is definately needed.
