shouldn't have to mess with timing.

how would you NOT have to mess with timing, considering you have to pull the intake to pull the heads and last time i checked the distributor has to be pulled first.

Im considering the same thing, being as i have to replace some other gaskets to fix an oil leak, but i was under the impression that you have to have the block and heads machined flat? but i might be wrong, it happens

If your head gaskets are OK and you're just changing them because you're doing every other gasket, then they won't need machining, but you have to make sure the surface is clean before putting a new gasket on.

If you have blown head gasket + aluminum head, then I'd recommend getting them checked by a machine shop and shaved if necesessary (about $40 per head).

Iron heads don't tend to warp like the aluminum ones. Aluminum has a much lower melting temperature than iron, meaning it warps at a lower temperature than iron will as well.

As far as timing goes, as long as the distributor rotor, and body are clearly scribed to the intake before removal, there shouldn't be any issues when reassembling.

Lifter Preload is a different story. Not bad though.
