Fuel Pump Problem (+ weird tick sound)
ok Ive done a bunch of searching on here but cant seem to find exactly what im looking for. Heres the thing, when I try to start my car it will crank and crank but wont fire. Ive checked for spark and thats fine. The problem is the fuel pump wont prime or come on at all while cranking. So I hooked up 12v to the G terminal on the ALDL and the fuel pump comes on fine with 12v supplied. What could cause this? The relay doesnt click over so I tried the fp harness in the fan relay because apparently theyre the same, is this true? That also didnt work.
And also theres a weird ticking after trying to start it coming from the fuel rail I think. The ticking is about 3 secs apart and last about a minute or two.Any ideas?

The fuel system is not priming if the pump is not running. A common problem I have seen is the wiring pulls out of the plug that goes into the relay. There's also a chance that you have a short in the wiring from the relay to the ecu. Also the ecu may have decided to fry itself and is not supplying the relay with the prime signal.

To test the ECU go to the plug under the dash that the engine harness plugs into and find the pink wire, I can't remeber what color it is on the other side of the harness but if you power that wire the fuel pump will prime. This is the trigger wire for the fuel pump from the ecu. Now look at the connector that goes to the ecu and follow the pink wire's corresponding pin on the oposite side (ECU side of the connector). When you turn the key on this wire should provide 12v for about 3 seconds (fuel pump prime). If it does not there is likely a problem in your ECU.
