305 Roller Rockers

Im putting a set of roller rockers on this 305 im rebuilding, is there anything that should go on the studs before the rockers? and should some of the rockers sit a little higher on the studs depending where the valve is open or closed? Some of my rockers are sitting a little higher than others on the studs, and it doesnt look like the nuts would run down on the stud as far as the rest. ANd what torque should they be torqued to, they are summit brand alumminum 1.5 roller rockers, thanks!

All the nuts should all sit about the same on each stud, although the rockers may be in different positions because of how the cam is sitting at the time. You don't torque them down, you have to adjust them to the proper spec. A solid cam would have a lash spec on the cam card, and a hydraulic cam would have no lash. I'll just assume here that you are using a hydraulic cam.

what you want to do, is get the lifter on the base circle of the cam (off the lobe) so you can set the lash properly. Then what you want to do is tighten the nut up just to the point where all the slack is taken out of the pushrod (cant move it up and down, but shouldn't be so tight it can't spin) then add another 1/4 or 1/2 turn on top of that. Then use a wrench to hold the nut in place and use an allen key to tighten up the set screw on the top of the nut.

Doing this is a real PITA and a few of the set screws WILL come loose the first time or two that you do it, it can take a few tries to learn how to do properly. Its cake once you get the hang of it though.

look up "valve lash" or "EOIC" for a good way to get the motor onto the cams base circle. Kinda time consuming, but a monkey to turn over the motor while you watch the rockers makes things go by faster.

Thread in rocker studs i'm assuming? Put sealant on the threads.
