traction...and traction control

hey all,

i kno we're all 3rd gens here, but there's a group of us with our 4th gens. on my 4th gen v6 firebird, i have traction control that cannot be disengaged. i know slp makes a device that you hook up so you have the option of taking it off and such. this hinders my ability to do burnouts etc.

next question: fall and winter driving. i dont have the luxery of a winter vehical. what do you guys do to winterize your cars, help increase traction in rain, wet leaves etc.

answers would be helpfull...sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, couldnt think of a better place to post. thanks.

Get real snow tires, put weight in the rear, and don't push your luck.

well i was already planning at least 200 lbs of those long circular cylinder like sand bags in the trunk, and snow tires...

this is a stupid question, but i kno jack on tires...but can winter tires help increase traction in rainy/slippery weather, like fall. water+leaves=badddd lol.

yea, sorta. "rain radials" are available also, but for most rainy fall type conditions normal all seasons should work fine, just don't drive like you're suicidal.
Winter tires come in many flavors, ice and snow being 2 different styles. For example "blizzaks" are super soft, work great to throw snow around, but aren't great on ice, and if you use them in the summer, they'll only last a few months.
"ice traks" work good on hard packed snow/ice. I know, how on earth will you know what you're going to be driving in, during the winter, when you're shopping for tires, in september (or december, depends on where you are...)

Calgary - cold, dry, ice radials. New brunswick, not as cold, lots of snow- snow tires. etc. Chains and whatnot you shouldn't even consider.

I wouldn't use sand as ballast, holds moisture (let the rusting begin) and is a big mess if it comes open. Maybe shop around and ask what the more popular winter tire is for your area. Also hit up tirerack.com and read reviews of tires people have left.

Actually it's the other way around. They're designed to stick to ice and compact snow on the highway, not dig through deep snow.
