Code 44?

So I seem to have fixed the code 32 error I was getting before, now its reading a code 44 O2 sensor lean? I replaced it about a year ago and now its showing an error? What do you do to fix the problem? The car died last night when I was driving home and it seems to drop idle when coming to a stop. I disconnected the battery yesterday to clear all codes and this one popped up after it ran crappy last night. I just want the car fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!

TPI could just be plugged fuel injectors. Try running some good fuel injector cleaner through the fuel tank. I have always had good results with BG44K, it's A LOT more expensive than the STP or other brands but it works extremely well and is what some shops use for a fuel injector cleaning service.

"Codes" shouldn't be interpreted that way. "O2 sensor lean" doesn't mean "O2 sensor is broke, replace it".

It means, the ECM is seeing a continuous or at least long-term condition of too much air and not enough fuel. Usually that means that it has tried to richen the mixture but can't.

What's your fuel pressure? Changed your fuel filter lately?

Start there. Find causes of inadequate fuel. Could be those things, or maybe faulty injector(s), fuel pressure regulator, etc.

update

So after trouble shooting everything, its the sensor itself. The car runs great, then it starts to run horrible and the SES light comes on, check the code which is 44. So this morning I go out and check everything again one more time. Then just for the hell of it I disconnect the O2 sensor and drive the car. Drove it all morning and it runs fantastic with no issues.

when the O2 sensor isnt hooked up it sends a constant generic O2 reading to the computer. it probably also sets the computer to "safemode", which is a complete set of generic values for the computer.

if i were you i'd backprobe the O2's wire and see what volatge its reading at cruise with the sensor hooked up. with the O2 sensor unhooked you'll be getting a constant reading (if my memory serves its .450, it fluctuates from .0-1.00 volts when properly working) this can actually be a nice, overlooked, tuning tool for performance tuning too.

It just set off a code 13 open 02 circuit code. The car ran fine but the SES light was on. I took the O2 sensor out, cleaned it, put it back in and back to the same old shenanigans. Im gonna try a new one and see what happens. I tell ya what. For a car that is supposedly running lean it sure smells rich and eats alot of gas...

Re: Code 44?

hey Jason here (Formula350Mechanic) also try 2 things unplug the vacuum elbow under throttle body and plug up see if it stops stalling at light also try removing the rubber hose from the reed valve that goes to put air to the exaust manifolds. if the solonids are bad it will tell the o2 its lean and make it rum so rich it dies when you stop. this is all assuming the tune up is ok, injectors ok, distrubitor ok, and no major vaccum leak on ypur TPI engine
