I'm deciding whether to purchase this from a buddy of mine or not. He has a 350 TPI longblock out of a 88 GTA and I was thinking of putting my carb and intake on it. I made him take the block off plate off of the engine and see if it is drilled for the fuel pump pushrod and it is, and I also made him check to see if it has a fuel pump lobe on the cam and he says it does. My main question is this, I will be using an old school HEI distributor and I want to know If I need a special gear for it, or can I keep my stocker, it's in great shape. I know about the centerbolt issue with the intake and I already have the right intake.

i've had both the small computer controlled and large cap HEI ignitions in my current engine, leading me to believe that they are identical from the intake seal down.
