you're 180* off.
Pull out the distributor, turn it 180*, and put it back in.
That'll probably fix it.

yea, I did it 3 times too, it's a lot easier to screw up, than get it right. (at first).
Follow the instructions I gave you before; turn motor over to TDC firing on #1, (finger in plug hole #1 trick eh?), then pop cap off dist, check to see if rotor is pointing to #1 post, if not, rearrange wires so that rotor points to post with #1 wire on it. Make sure the rest going clockwise are in the right firing order. Get someone to crank it over while you turn the dist if you have to. Once you get it running, set it to ~10*. Let it warm up, fully. No, all the way.
Then reset your timing, say 12* or something. Take it around the block then, see if it works for ya.

That mark will line up twice per combustion event. Pull the drivers side valve cover and turn the balance until the mark lines up and BOTH valves are closed on #1. That should be #1 at top dead center on the compression stroke. Drop in the distributer with the rotor pointing at #1. Try starting it again.

You need just to turn the balancer over until Both valves for the number one cylinder are closed. when the balancer mark lines up with 0 on the timing cover look at you rocker arms for #1 cylinder both of them should be even, if they are not rotate the crankshaft one more time and check the rocker arms again. once they are even set you distributor with the rotor button pointing towards #1 on the cap.

I said to hold you finger in plug hole #1, and feel for the puff of air. They mentioned to remove a valve cover and watch for both rockers on cylinder 1 to be closed. Both methods accomplish the same thing, pick your favorite, or the one that's hardest to screw up. (I put my finger in the plug hole.)
