I don't know what's wrong.
I don't know what's wrong.
I have a 1987 firebird with a 2.8 liter 6 cyl. engine. I have a problem, and I'm having a hard time finding out what it is. I was hoping someone could help here.
It starts and idle's very nicely, no problems stalling. When I put the car in reverse, or drive, it has serious power problems. I finally decided to park it when I was doing 45 on a country road near my house and the engine stopped running. Now whenever I try to move it, it barely has enough power to move, and stalls after a few seconds. The fuel pressure is fine, so I'm stumped. I thought it must be the fuel pump or the fuel line, but apparently not. Please help, I'd love to get it back on the road.

I just replaced the transmission a year ago. I'd hate to have to mess with that again. I thought it must be in the engine because it keeps shutting off. I don't really want to go to the dealer, but I might have to.

its kind of hard to diagnose a problem with a keyboard especially if you dont give us more details
I have found that some of the folks on this board can be called genious but you have to give them the proper info- every detail of what the car is doing

Okay maybe someone can help me here... I also have an 87 with a completely rebuilt 2.8L V6 multi port. Recently i have noticed that the idle will lope or adjust itself at a stop light.. it would get higher and then lower. along with this when i stop at a light it smells almostl like raw gas coming from somewhere but i have no exhaust smoke. Now today for the first time my car stalled out twice at 2 different stop lights.. could this possibly be an EGR problem since its the only piece not new? Im stumped please help
