Build my engine
I got a 91 gta with a 5.0l and the 700r4 tranny. it's a t-top edition.
I blew the engine sorta, i got alot ofwater in my oil, up at the valve covers, on both sides. I might be able to salvage it bt I'd rather just replace the whole engine, It's had so many other issues that I want to do that.
I wanna get the 5.7l and put in there but here's what I'm not sure of. I got a budget of 1500-2500 for the engine. should I get a long block, short block, or a bare block and build the engine? also, I'm not sure where to get the engine and/or parts from, any suggestions on all that?
also I've heard the only thing I gottta change between the 5.0 and the 5.7 is the computer? is that correct?
I know with the 5.7 I should have sub-frame connectors and I plan on getting some soom after the engine is in.
no matter what route I go with the engine I want it to have the 4-bolt mains.
ummm. what else I would like the engine to be NOS capable, I won't be juicing it but I want it strong like that.
thanks mike

Whoa, you've got a lot of homework to do first.
A few starters;
-You don't need 4 bolt mains
- If you're not going to use nitrous, don't build it for that. It's detrimental (bad) if you don't build it for a specified usage.
- Subframes aren't needed for a 350, not like a certain engine size is where you draw the line. SFC's are a good mod no matter what though, so i' highly recommend that soon as you can. Weld 'em in!
-You know the difference between a long block and a short block?
-I think you're best off getting a long block, and using all your current accessories that still work well. That's your best bet to coming in on budget, IMHO.

GM sells a nice stock replacement longblock with vortec heads for pretty cheap. Then swap a cam if you'd like or just bolt it in.
