fan switches - how do they work?

I have this jet fan switch set for 180degrees. Since my engine and ecm/wireharness has been extensively modded, can I run this fan switch and its single lead wire into a relay, so when the switch hits its 180 mark, It would kick a signal to the relay to switch my fans on?

well fan switches that bolt into the head or intake act as the "ground" in the relay wiring for turn-on. But to answer your question, yes that would turn the fans on then at that temp, or around there depending on the accuracy of the fan switch itself.

Ok I got it, So I just wire The relay ground straight to this fan switch. Awesome, I am going to give that a shot if thats the case. My power lead to the relay comes straight from an ignition source, so right now, When the key goes on, so does the fan, I don't need that anymore.

if you have any issues with it just ask, I'm running 8-9 relays in the car now. everything from dual fans, to electric fuel pump, to ignition, etc etc

I got scientific with my solution for controlling the fans and the TCC when I went to carb from TPI (no ECM).
I made a controller that uses the existing fan relays, gauge sending unit, and TCC stuff. With the addition of bulb thermostat, on-idle switch and 1 relay.
It features:
Adjustable turn on set points for each fan (R & L).
Both fans on at A/C head pressure of 250 psi..
Bulb thermostat (allows left fan to run after engine shutoff).
Manual override switch for both fans on (failsafe).
TCC engagement inhibit until temp set point is reached. (like the factory).
TCC engagement in 4th only.
TCC disengage on coast.
All in one neat package, because I love electronics:
