new to forums... sbc powered rx7

mods, i wasn't sure where to put this, please move it if i posted it in the wrong section. thanks!

anyway, what's up guys, my name is Wes, and I own a 1988 mazda rx7 that is propelled down the road by a small block chevy engine. I'm not sure how you guys are going to respond to my car, most of the guys from the RX7 forums thought I was an idiot for ditching the rotary engine (I don't see any advantages of having that little pea shooter over the v8 though lol), so I don't know how you guys will respond to my little bastard import/domestic hybrid, but I'm willing to take any criticism you wanna dish out
anyway, here are some pictures of my car, enjoy

let me know what you think about it!

Well, unfortunately this is a 3rd gen forum, so since your setup has nothing really to do with 3rd gens, it has no place here...
Although, it is a very cool swap indeed. What does it weigh in the end, 2700lbs maybe? I remember a stock one was under 2500lbs for the older style IIRC.
Must go like crazy.

it ends up just a shade over 2800, and the reason i put it on here is i was wanting to see what i could learn about the small block chevy motors and figure out the route i wanna go as far as makin it fast

Looks good. I helped out my brother with a couple conversions that all went real fast. He did it right, too, including recalibrating the stock RX-7 tach to work with the V8, sorting out all the wiring so everything works right, etc. I recall we got it all to fit under an original Turbo II hood.

One of the more slick upgrades we found, if you're considering better wheels and tires, was bolting on a set of older Mustang Cobra wheels. The bolt pattern and backspacing was apparently compatible. Don't tell me you don't have traction problems with those original wheels and tires!

I don't think an aluminum-headed SBC really weighs much more than the original rotary buzz bomb. Not surprising these conversions are fairly popular.

Well, before we get run off for being about as off-topic as you can get, here's what it looks like when done right. This is a local builder in Huntsville.
I got behind this car in traffic and watched it leave a redlight. Something just didn't sound right. His personalized license plate sums it up: "OMGWTF". His web address was on his back glass.

Whats some of the details on the small block? I like the swap. One of my favorite cars is a late model RX7 with a built LSx powerplant.

I think the hood needs something. At first it looks like its a heat extracter with cowl, but after the other pics, it looks like it was supost to be a scoop of somekind.

I like it, what tranny are you running?

it's just a lil 305 in there right now, but i'm looking for a 350 for a buildup. this motor is about to get nitrous, a little shot for now, and a daring shot once the 350 is ready to be dropped in. the cowl is done for the clearance, which is little to none with a 3" cleaner on there. the air cleaner wingnut contacts the cowl when you slam the hood, you can see little chunks missing out of the bottom of it.

i'm running a 700r for the transmission, with a stock convertor and a shift kit.
