Weird Problem PLEASE HELP!!

ok first off i got a 1986 Iroc with the 305 tpi, ok i start the car it starts and then it just dies out slowly it has a real rough idle then it just dies out, i already did a tune up of wires plugs and car and rotor i changed the fuel filter im thinkin its the fuel pump , but if its the fuel pump wouldnt the car just not work at all what could it be?

this mecheanic told me the pump could just be going bad or dieing out could that be the culprit? but it sounds like its a fuel problem.

A fuel pressure gague would tell you the truth very quickly. If the pump is "dying" it won't make adequate pressure.

~42PSI engine off. Down in the mid 30s when idling (the FPR has a line that makes it vacuum-compensated so the pressure will go lower the more intake vacuum there is).

Unplug the MAF and see how it runs.

throw some Sea Foam in your gas to clean up fuel lines an filter plus some of the crap that maybe in the engine its self i threw some in my T/a the other day damn you could tell when it started working (had the same problem as you would just die out in an idle or a rev. As soon as it flushed the system i fet the much needed power come back may not fix your problem totaly but its a inexpensive way to to start.
