High oil pressure after new pressure switch

That about says it all. Had a leaky oil pressure switch and replaced it with an off the shelf autozone part.

Now my oil pressure read around the hash mark between 30 and 60. Does that sound abnormal?

Sounds fine.

Your old one was broken. Evidently in more ways than just the one.

Yep, sounds like it's now reading correctly. ~40-45PSI is typical stock pressure with a hot engine anywhere over about 2500 RPMs.

I've also noticed that when those senders go bad they typically start reading lower than actual. Not always, but usually.

You done good.

Sorry to be a little off-topic but I just had to ask....

Recently, my oil pressure gauge dropped down to zero on my way to work. I first noticed that the pressure was lower than usual so as I was driving, I kept my eye on the gauge and watched as pressure kept dropping further and further until it read zero.

I immediately pulled off the highway and shut it down.

Later on, I confirmed that the car did infact have oil pressure so I came to the conclusion I had a bad sending unit. After replacing that, the gauge worked for about 2 minutes until it went back down to zero. At that point, I just figured it was a problem with the instrument panel itself. Since then, I've been driving with an oil-pressure gauge that reads zero all the time and needless to say, it's very annoying and at the same time, worrying (what if my oil-pressure does drop to zero for some reason, I'll never know about it until it's too late.....)

Just yesterday I accidently stumbled upon this

85-88 Oil Pressure Switch

an "oil-pressure switch" which I had never even heard about or even knew existed. It was the first time I'd heard of it. Today, I find your post about replacing your oil-pressure switch so I just had to ask.

Where exactly is this switch located? Can it be accessed from above or do you have to go underneith the car?

I'm not at home right now so I can't go look at the car myself so if you could just help me out on this, that would be GREATLY appreciated.

I sure hope that's the reason my oil-pressure gauge isn't working. It's not the sending unit so what else can it be besides the gauge itself, or this switch??

Thanks and sorry for being off topic.
