I have an 85 Z28 305 TPI.

My car is acting very strange and I'm stumped. When the engine is running, my check engine light flashes on and off and the car looses power every time it flashes on. While I'm driving, the car sputters.

I did a little trouble shooting and realized that if I press on the brake pad just to make the brake lights come on, the problem stops and the car runs smooth.

We also noticed a ticking sound under the hood every time the check engine light flashes on and off and it's coming around the alternator. We checked the connections to the alternator, and had it tested and it came up ok. The battery is brand new. We also checked the electrical connections under the hood and all is good.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We hooked it up to my friends dads Snap On computer at his shop, and there were no codes.

 

Well we hooked it up to the computer again, and this time we got a code stating the "fuel pump voltage high/low"

I'm assuming I need a new fuel pump?
