Need a little help with a 91 RS...

Ok, so I'm new to this board, first post. Well yeah so here's what I have. I have a 1991 5.0 RS T-top Camaro. TBI. It wont start. I can get it to start and run by pouring gas into the intake. The car's been sitting for 2-3 years.
Someone told me the following: drop the tank and replace the fuel pump. Could this be the reason why my car wont fire up? I'm kind of new with this, but I figure things out really quickly, and been building two stroke motorcycle engines for awhile, but new to the whole car thing.

Also It has all old fluids, so that could be a factor as well.

Also the water pump leaks really bad. does anyone know where I could find a good affordable water pump and gasket?

I'm really exciting about this car, and I can't wait to get it running, any help is appreciated.

Well if it fires when you pour gas down the TB, fueling is definately your problem (or part of it)

I would start by checking for operation of the fuel pump and ensure all its wiring and fuses are intact. If its the pump thats bit the dust you might be able to beat on the bottom of the gas tank with the handle of a hammer or something to get it to go for a bit.

So before you go through the PITA procedure of dropping the tank to change the pump, be at least 99% sure that its your problem. Its no 5min task!

If the pump cycles with the key, check t make sure the fuel filter isnt plugged solid and that you have adequate fuel pressure up at the throttlebody.

Here's what I'd do if it were mine.

Siphon out ALL the gas out of the tank and check it to see if it has turned to varnish (probably has by now). If it has then replace the fuel filter add a few gallons of fresh gas. Then pull off the fuel line (pressure line) at the fuel rail and pump some fuel into some sort of container to get fresh fuel into the line (turn the key on). I would try to make sure NOT to pump gas all over the place! If the fuel pump works at all you'll get gas shooting out the hose. If not... well then replace the pump.

If it runs at all after changing the filter, then add some fuel injector cleaner to the gas. It would be good if you could pull off the return fuel line instead of the pressure line but you would have to attach a line of some sort so you could catch the fuel coming out.

Why has it been sitting for a couple years and did it run when it was parked?

Ok, I'll try that. thaniks for all the help.

It was parked in 2002 because the owner (my friend James) was in a bad motorcycle accident, and is now paralized from chest down, so he can't drive it, so i asked him if he'd sell it, it needs the whole front bumper cover, and bottom bumper peice and a new door and a light, and quater panal has a dent i need fixed, and a few other little parts. But it does run, just wont stay running without help. I paid 1200 for it, which is too much, but he needs the cash, so I feel bad, and well, i'm helping him out.
