Powermaster Mini Starter Problum
Powermaster Mini Starter Problum
I have installed a Powermaster 9600 153/168 Tooth mini starter on my 89 GTA 5.7 . I am expirencing problums. When I turn the key the starter gear is engaging but hits the fly wheel on the way out. The only way i have been able to over come this problum is but going underneath the car and turning the pinion gear by hand before trying to start the car. I am getting really sick of this issue and have called powermaster to try and solve but they claim it to be an electrical issue. I checked and its all fine. Can anybody please tell me what i can do to solve this?
Sorry if this is a repost. I have searched and i have not come to any answer to fix this issue.

Mytagta,
Did you ever figure out whats going on with your starter? For me I bought a hitachi starter because I thought they where good and the guy at the shop i went to was raving about the long lasting motor they use. I went and installed it i engaged the starter and it would not retract from the flywheel. I took it back to them and now I have that same starter (powermaster 9600).
Im going to be installing it today so I'll let you know how it works out.
Good luck man

you need shims man, not all starters are alike. i bought a good acdelco starter and installed it w/ no issues, and the next one i bought i had to shim it. its really stupid but it has to be done.
