Wow...that's broad.

Umm...It really depends on your plans for the vehicle. If you are already planning on swapping the motor or even the short-block, I'd suggest getting a clean body with whatever comes in it.. A fresh motor with some go-fast goodies can easily destroy either trans so you will be beefing it up or replacing it anyway.

If you just want something fun to drive and don't plan on heavily modding it...I've found a 305 with a 5-speed and a 3.73 gear is plenty fun. Especially if you put a full exhaust on it. The auto 305 I have has 2.73 gears and isn't quite as snappy/fun.

The 350/305 debate is a hot topic here, and both sides will gladly speak their minds. I don't think the 305 is a bad platform, but, to quote a member here whom I don't remeber his name, "Don't let anybody fool you into thinking a 305 will make more power than a 350, because the 350 will win every time". HOWEVER, that's also 45 more ci to pour fuel into, and if it's a daily driver, it'll add up.

The 5-Speeds are really fun to drive! As long as you don't have to do much stop-n-go driving in traffic, if so the clutch can be a drag.

The 305 TPI with 3.45 or 3.73 gears is a great way to go, but if you want 305 power it will cost you in parts, time and money. It's not hard to get a modified 305 to be faster than any thirdgen stock 350, but the same mods on that same 350 will win out every time.

My car is a blast to drive, but I've spent lots of time and money to get to where it is today. I'll probably never put a 350 in it, but I'm tempted to buy another 350 thirdgen just to have different and more powerfull toy.

long story!!!

yeah well im not planning on heavily modding it I want a daily driven car that is fun to drive in other words kill rice burners and mustangs...lol... but yeah i love the hell out of standards thats all i drive realy cause thats what i learned how to drive and, i just think that any body can punch the gas and win but, it dont need to have driver talent to win in a auto so if you win against a auto in a standard then you can say yeah its because i know how to drive it...lol... in other words you need to be skilled to drive a stick anybody can jump in a fast auto car and kill a standard but there not doing anything but punching the gas,do you know what im saying.....not to **** you auto guys off or any thing but i just think autos are boring!!! I no its off topic but hell oh well i had to get it off my chest cause my friend says that autos are faster and they are in there own way like strait drag racing there is no pause between shifts but if its a street car than thats a different story do you understand...lol...

In the real world, at a dragsrtip (not this ******* street racing crap), has it ever dawned on you as to why theres to many automatic cars out there? Its called being consistant. Not trying to be mean, but I doubt you can drive a stick as good as you think you can, and the comment about not needing any talent to drive an automatic car is quite humerous. I run my Chevelle at the track and NEVER miss my ET by more that .005, and thats with a 508hp big block and a 4-speed on street tires. Check my sig and see what it runs. Even the slick passes were pretty damn close to that. Anyway, just get something that suits what you want. If you want a 5-speed car, get a 305. You can always swap to a 350 or bigger down the road. But at any rate, youre not going to be "killing" too many Mustangs with a stock thirdgen anyway...so just be ready for that.
