timing issue

timing issue

im a tigh *** when it come to spending mony i dont haft to spend i went out and bought a timing light so i can set my timing on me car dose anyone know what the spec are for a 305 what the timming should be set at and where the time indacator is on the block.

im trying to do this project by my self with out taking it to a garage and all

Assuming it's a 305 TPI, the factory had them set on 6deg.

not its not a tpi now im a noob when it come to the lingo and all but it is carbed and all but not factry its a little beefed up

I'd set it on 10deg. See if it pings under load (up hill ect) I reckon thats a good starting point. YOu might be able to get it up around 13 or even 16 if the dizzy has been re-curved before it pings.

If you look straight down the centre of the front of the engine you should see timing marks off the crank pulley. Get your timing light and flash around down there you should see them.
