Question about 1991 engine rebuild validity
Question about 1991 engine rebuild validity
Hey i'm 19 and in college and had my 1991 rs camaro since i was 14, it has 108k miles and runs great, i've replaced the shocks, added a borla exhaust system, replaced the speakers and deck with alpine and kenwood, replaced the tires and brakes and kept my car in tip top shape.
Here's where the problem comes in, i don't know much about engines, and the dude at the mechanics shop that does my annual oil changes and stuff says i need to either rebuild the engine soon or replace it, and umm he started using a lot of "fancy" words that a casual guy like me didn't understand, and started talking about how much this would cost and i was like holy crap my cars not even worth that much how could it be so expensive...
So if anyone has encountered something like this before or happens to know anything about engines please post, i have no idea if the guy is lying or not but hes known my car since i got it... thanks, i hope one of you can help with a suggestion or something.

What kind of oil are you using that you change annually? If it's the standard big-name petroleum-based stuff, he's probably right. If it's synthetic like Mobil 1 or AMSOIL, and you don't put a bunch of miles on it, you're probably okay.
If it runs okay and doesn't burn oil and passes emissions testing (if required), then there is no reason to assume the engine needs to be rebuilt.

Does it have good oil pressure? You don't have any smoke out the tail pipes do you?
If the guy has taken care of your car this long, why now do you think he would want to take your money?
