MSD-8500???

Will a MSD-8500 kit work with our cars?

My motor is carbd and from what it sounds it would work, but summitracing.com states that I would only work with motors up to the 80's?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

Just need no know if it worked, And if so...How well did it work for you?

Thanks in Advance

The .pdf instructions show installation with the 7-pin module. Sounds like it works.

Probably because it's for non-computer controlled engines. Our cars (3rdgens) are computer controlled.

Again, the instructions refer to how to hook it up to an ignition with a 7-pin module. That's the computer-controlled large-cap HEI. '82-'86 carb'd (US-delivered) had that system.

True, the installation.pdf at the bottom of the page is correct.
I was refering to the Summit application search results from the link MyFast3rdgen provided.

A search may lead others to the same conclusion.
I browsed by brand name.
Brand: MSD Ignition
Department: Ignitions & Electrical
Make: CHEVROLET
Section: Ignition Components
Part Type: Ignition Box and Coil Kits
Model: CAMARO

Browse By
Year: 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980
Engine Size: 5.7L/350, 5.0L/305, 4.4L/267

And by Make & Model, MSD wasn't even in results.

Make: CHEVROLET
Model: CAMARO
Year: 1986
Department: Ignitions & Electrical
Section: Ignition Components
Part Type: Ignition Box and Coil Kits

Browse By
Brand: Crane Cams, Accel
Engine Type: L4, V6, V8
Engine Size: 2.8L/173, 2.5L/151, 5.0L/305
Circuitry: Analog, Digital
Ignition Box Output: Inductive, Capacitive discharge

MSD doesn't list the 8500 kit on it's product page and a seach for 8500 yields only an image of both non-ECM and ECM systems.
Product number range 8423 thru 8739 http://www.msdignition.com/1media_imagesB.html

Here's the image. http://www.msdignition.com/media/images/8500_kit.jpg

That would have been good to know from the beginning. If that's the case, then the earlier applications they listed do apply to you.

If you have a "standard" large cap HEI, it's a 4-pin. Bypassing the module is actually a good thing.
