anything I need to do? before sealing up?

Im going to seal up the bottom end tonight...put the oil pan and timing chain cover on the motor...im running a 1 piece gasket...should put any RTV on anything or just dry?

anything I should do before I close it all up? I got this motor already put together but should I check the torque or anything? ....it all seems to look ok in there...I just dont want to have to go back in there after I close it up.

anyone know what the torque settings are for the main caps, rods..and oil pump? thats all that I would need to check if anything...

thanks

i still put some RTV on the corners but a small amount just in case. make sure the pickup is welded onto the oil pump, if not have someone tack it on there for you.

rod bolts might be torque'd to length not a specific torque rating, so you'd have to catch up with machine shop for that. Otherwise if I get it back from a shop like that I just typically slap it in a car, and don't really check anything from a reputable shop.

you can always just pour some oil on everything. I'd do that.

If a shop built the bottom end, then i'd leave it. Otherwise, i'd whack each main cap with a hammer, then torque each bolt to 65ft/lbs, nothing should happen, that's a good thing.

ah, 1pc rubber gasket, yea, I guess no RTV needed there, I was going to say, go nuts on the RTV...

gotta cha!

So its safe to say the 1 piece should not leak? I would just hate to get it all in the bay and find out the damn oil pan leaks cause of the gasket.

should I torque the bolts on the pan or just nice and tight?

thanks!

torque 'em to the right rating, it's something weenie, like 10ftlbs and 14ftlbs for the corners, essentially just over finger tight. Don't do it too loose, and don't overtighten it (you'll warp the pan). Mine leaks like a sieve, it sucks!
Also, i'd recommend lock washers.

If your using the felpro one piece then it should be fine just use the proper torque on the bolts. Its been over a year with absolutey no leaks and no sealer on my engine.

Check your pickup to oil pan clearance if you havnt already. Should be between 1/4-3/8" from the bottom of the pan.

If you read the instructions for that felpro gasket it will say to add a small amount of silicone on the corners by the timing cover and rear seal.

The instructions with my gasket reads specifically "do not use silicone!!!". I know some are made with latex rubber which wont stick to silicone.
