how are you supposed to tell the difference between mellings old castings and new by comparing 2 of their NEW castings... both of those pumps have undergone the same changes...
and of course the HV would be bigger as it requires bigger lobes to push more oil

This is the old M55HV, circa 2000. Sure there are slight differences, but still doesn't look like much to get excited over.
Curiously enough, this pump failed when the head fell off the pickup.

It kills me that deduced weight is a reason for the thinner casting. When have you ever thought to yourself I really with my non rotating engine internals were lighter? Honestly I wonder what the difference in weight is? I know raw materials are more expensive these days but to skimp on an oil pump? That is just bad!
