Cranking problem
Hi Guys,
Its been a long time since I have posted but I have ran into a problem I can't figure out.
On My girlfriends Bone Stock 1992 RS, 5.0 auto, TBI. Normanally when I crank the car I don't ever have to do anything other than turn the key.
In the past couple of days when I start the car it goes dead within 1 second. If I give it some gas it starts fine and will stay running as long as I hold the gas down for a few seconds.
I connected the laptop with tunerpro to the aldl and everything looks fine while the engine is running except for the engine temp. I'm not sure what I should be seeing while I am cranking the engine.
The engine temp was reading 8(eight) f. degrees on the laptop even with the temp gauge in the car reading 210. I'm not sure if a bad temp reading could cause the problems I am having or not.
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks,
Dewayne

There are 2 temp gauges on these cars i think. One Controls the dash guage and one controls the ECU. Maybe the one going to your ECU is bad.
EDIT: And if the one sending the signal to the ECU was reporting the engine as being 8 degrees when the engine is really 180+, this would make it run very rich, probably causing it to stall upon start up. Once the engine is running it would then enter open loop in which case the 02 sensor would help lean it out some.
