My new 383 is running Lean...any help please?
Hi Guys,
Here are the specs on the engine I just built:
ZZ383
Superram intake
Lingenfelter 219/219 cam
Fastburn Heads
EdWright Chip
For some reason, the engine is idling at around 1300-1400 rpm, and the car is running very lean! The headers turn 'red' from about 3-4 mins of idling!
We have checked almost everything on the engine for issues that may cause this, but no results yet. Our next step will be to remove the Superram and check for leaks there. But before we do that, I want to make sure I didn't miss anything, so I am hoping for any suggestions from you experts out there.
Thanks,
Tommy

What he said!
Glowing headers is the result of some of the combustion taking place after the exhaust valve is open. Your timing is WAY off. Make sure your mark on the balancer is the real and actual TDC, then reset the timing on the distributor.

Same problem. I had the rockers a tad too tight dumping fuel into the headers and reignighting. I would adjust them with the car running and set timing at 6* should be ok. Shouldnt turn red even with stock injectors.

Hey Guys,
After dooing an exhaustive problem analysis and not finding anything wrong with our initial work, we decided to remove the Superram to check for leaks.
Well..as you can see below, there were some MAJOR leaks occuring on runner to manifold connections. I beleive the fuel rail was getting in the way of the runner and not letting it sit correctly.
When we initially put this thing on, we had alot of fitment issues, and we had to grind down parts and bolts to make this thing fit correctly. It seems that we need to do more!
We are now going to remove the manifold and 'pre-fit' everything outside of the car and ensure that this is the last time we have to remove this thing!
I just can't beleive how bad these parts are engineered.
Anyway...hopefully, this will resolve my issues!

Thanks!
