Mortec Descriptions
I have a fresh, complete 355; '79 St. Catherines cast, Tarrytown (truck, bus) assembled block. Never ran. Heads were acquired seperately, from block, but all was assembled at a reputable race shop. I inherited the motor, when Dad died. I think it was going into a 3/4 ton work truck. Cam is unknown; I just know "RV cam". I need to degree and check lift, to map out the cam specs; figured it would be a perfect TPI cam, and on the whole, a good tpi motor. Was aiming for a mild perf set-up, and pulling out my 5,000 mile original '87 LB9 305.
Mortec sorta misled me, when I checked the casting numbers for my heads. I figured I had a set of plain-jane 1.94 heads. They have limited description info.
I just went back and checked another site with the part casting numbers and date numbers, and it says 'convert, truck, bus', and 1.72/1.5.

3998993 Different casting dates by about a year; apparently '82 and '83.

They are bowled and port matched, but valve sized for med-duty truck!
Are these castings worth me working more in the innards, if I was to get it machined for 1.94 seats (or 2.02's)? If so, I guess I would have the guides machined for more lift and put good springs and way better cam in it, since they obviously need to come off...
