my cousin bought a 91 camaro 3.1 autotragic. well it ran fine but it smoked white smoke like a blown head gasket would make it smoke. well he got looking around the engine before i could check it and found that SOMETHING on the motor was broken off and blocked off with a pop can cut in half.. From what i could see (it was dark) its on the passenger side of the motor and has a few wires running to it. well he went and got one and replaced it before i checked it and ripped the wires and had to splice them into another harness from a 3.1 or 2.8 firebird in the junkyard. I'm guessing that this is the problem but idk what part it is untill the morning. anyone have any ideas, it sounds like its getting fire just no fuel, and it was to cold and dark to go pulling plug wires while he was cranking it to check for spark. i can hear the fuel pump so i know thats not it. Anyone have3 any ideas? i though about checking the crank position sensor, i know that can cause the fi 60 degree motors to not start. other then that my knowledge is mostly about tbi setups on s10. Any help would be appreciated.

 

well, I went and check it out.. its getting fuel and spark. so that mean no compression. I got a little more info and when he first got it it was running fine, no smoke or bad things like that. but he let a friend of his drive it and it started bellowing white smoke out that smelled like antifreeze, so its a blown head gasket. it has to be just the coolant passages that are leaking because there is no water in the oil. Also the mystery part was the egr, and its good now. But would it be worth it to put headgaskets on it, the body is pre3tty good with a few blemishes and he has a scoobaru to drive as a daily till its fixed so no rush. he is thinking about just throwing a carb'd 350 or 400 in there and callin it a day but i won't let him because he is 16 and stupid.. and would kill himself.
