Question about my 91 RS.

When I pull the dipstick there is gunky build-up on it. It's color is like an off white. It's not mixing with the oil changing the oils color, it's separate, and when I changed my oil it wasn't in the oil. Could this be a vaccuum leak or something allowing water to build up or something? I was also told the motor was rebuilt, is there a chance it could be rust inside the engine? or if it was rust would i obviously see it in my engine oil when I change it? I'm not losing any coolant really either, so I don't believe coolant is mixing in my oil to cause that. I do notice that if my dipstick isn't properly seated on the tube when I run my engine some oil will come out the top of it and get on the headers and burn off causing smoke.

oil should not just come out of the dipstick unless there is something wrong with your pcv valve but who knows...when you say gunk is it paste is it slime is it crunchy?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Off-white gunk = water

How's your PCV system? Drawing plenty of vacuum through the valve; Got the tube going into the other valve cover hooked up to a source of FILTERED air?

If all of that is good, then you have a coolant leak; you just haven't noticed it yet.

I'll check my PCV valve and see if it's still good. The off-white stuff isn't crunchy, but it's thicker than oil by far. I'll take a picture of it sometime soon and post it on here so you all can see it.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think a pic is necessary. We've seen it before.

It's water. Mixed with oil. It looks about like mayonnaise.

ahh yes like mayonnaise! I now notice my dipstick tube is wiggly, is it tightenable or replaceable without having to drop the oil pan? Or is a little give normal? I was thinking since I didn't see any "mayonnaise" in my oil when I changed it that perhaps moisture is building up at the base of the tube. I'm not sure.
