R engine 383

I just recently bought a knocking 350 from the dearlership i work at. Im trying to figure out if the Vortec heads I got are worth making flow, and What kinda set up would be best for 383 fuel inject. Ive been told it better to go carb. But id really like to do fuel injection. I have a 88 Camaro that currently runs a 305 with 700r4. I want to replace that with the engine i build and a 5spd. TKO hopefully. If any insight let me know. Thank you. Ricky Bobby, Robby for short.

Ricky bobby? haha, ever drive Nascar?

J/K.
Vortec heads are a great idea on a 383, you can always port out the exhaust a bit if you're so inclined.

Carbed is so much easier and cheaper, I can't see why you would seriously consider FI. Price it out and see for yourself. Look at a FAST type of stand-alone system, or a Mini-ram or something. Keep in mind the laptop you'll need.
...Unless you're thinking of using the TBI setup off your '88 car, hopped up a bit. I'm not a fan of TBI so I can't really offer suggestions there.

Thanks for ur input. I am planning on porting the heads and polishing. Also some machine work around the spring seats for a bigger came. Im just tring to get the best bang for my buck. I was looking into the Holley Commander set up, 30 pph injectors, fuel rails, throttle body, and intake. I think i also have to get their ecm for this application.

Holley commander eh? Have you priced it out? I just don't really think you'll get the best bang for your buck on that one, vs a carb, but I don't have any direct experience, so I best clam up and let someone else comment.

I think vortecs can run up to normal 1.25" spring, or beehives on it without machining, but I might be wrong. How much cam do you have planned? (roller?)

Well, I was thinking around .480 or .490 lift. I had thought about the carb route but im not sure. I think id be happier with fuel injection, But if its better to do a carb for the money then id take that. Im just putting together a parts list and figuring what im looking at.

We made 476hp on a 6" 383 with unported vortecs, 10.5:1, RPM air gap and a 650 with our dyno mule. They're good heads out of the box. Put in a set of Manley valves, dual springs and a good valve job. I've got the flow sheets around here somewhere that i could dig up.

If you really want budget fuel injection, you should take a look at the megasquirt.

I thank you all for teh help. Ive been told about megasquirt but havent really did any research. Ill look in to it. oh yeah i forgot to say im gonna run a roller cam. Im sticking with teh vortec heads. Ive found out that comp makes beehive springs that will work for a cam with .550 lift. Plenty big enough for what i want. I also have to but the rockers and all with it as a kit.
