engine stand bolts

engine stand bolts

hey guys what size and lighth bolts whould i use to mount the motor the the stand. the motor is an old 305

can't tell ya every stand is different the have these things called tape measures u want the bolt in the block a 1'1/2" or so

itll vary on the length depending on the manufacturer, youll have to measure for that, but for the threads, they should be a 3/8 UNC standard thread. take one of you bellhousing bolts to the boltstore with you and you can compare threads and sizes.

the vast majority use (4 ) 3.5" long 3/8" NC GRADE 8 bolts and youll need about (8) 3/8" washers to slide two on the bolts below the bolt heads before inserting them in the engine stands tool head.
btw two little tricks ,

first is to insert the bolts then from the engine side slide a 2" long section of 3/8" rubber fuel line , over the bolt, this keeps them centered and far less likely to fall out easily.

second mount the tool head to the block before lifting the tool head and sliding it into the stand, locking it in place ONLY after greasing the swivel heads bearing area.

and its usually a good idea to replace the cheap 18" leverage handle with a 36" long forged steel bar
