Buring Oil and No Oil Pressure!!
Buring Oil and No Oil Pressure!!
I have a 1989 Trans Am GTA, 5.7L 350, i have had the car for almost a year and it has been buring oil the whole time. Although, lately i have been getting very little oil pressure at idel.
I was wondering what could be the cause of this? is it valve guides, Valve Stem Seals, im am not sure. I have searched aroung but havent been able to find any help.
When i start the car up it will puff out blue smoke and occ. when i drive, if i am ideling for a while the car will have trouble building oil pressure and it will die if i put in in drive or reverse, it will sometimes die just in idel.
Im looking for an answer to help solve this problum.
Thanks

How low is your oil pressure exactly? I would first verify your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.

Also, it is possible that the engine is worn out.
Like when someone owns a car for years without changing the oil and then sells it. Those cars have to go somewhere.
The best bet, since these engines are notorious for leaking valve stem seals, is to replace the seals and see how much difference that makes.
The low oil pressure reading may just be a bad sending unit.
There are other things to look for to tell if you are working on an engine that needs to be rebuilt:
Oil leaking from all 4 corners.
Oil leaking from both the front and rear crankshaft seals.
Lots of crankcase blowby from the valve cover when doing a stall test...and others.
