Cam Install Help

Ready to install CAM in my 1989 roller block. Is the only thing holding cam in place the cam retainer plate ? What do you torque the two bolts to ?

Steve

The retainer keeps the cam from walking forward, metal drive in plug does it on the rear and the chain itself keeps it lined up some too. Those bolts would go for about 15 ftlbs. Not too heavy on the wrench.

Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
The back of the cam gear running into the retainer plate is what keeps the cam from moving rearwards.

Duh, you're right. Wasn't thinking here, not unusual for me. Thanks for the correction. Sorry Steve.

Yeah, don't make the mistake of thinking the plug is going to hold it in... I saw a guy building a motor once, drop the cam in while the motor was facing with the front up.... he dropped the cam in, it just punched the plug right out, and the cam fell on the floor and broke in half.
