sensor help!
Well i swapped my 305 tpi for a 383 carb and im trying to finish a few small things. One thing being the sensors. I want my oil pressure sensor to work with the stock guage in the dash. Right now i have just a screw in fitting deal that goes beside the dist and a plug in the block by the oil filter. What do i need to make this work? What goes on the fitting and what goes in the block? Also, the coolent temperature sensor, im guessing just screws in the driver side head and a connector from the drivers side harness goes to it that i probably cut off? Part numbers would help alot too. I tried to find a oil pressure sensor from autozone but they discontinued it, hmm.

Put the oil pressure sender either in the plugged hole above the oil filter, or in the hole by the distributor. Plug the hole you don't use. The coolant temperature sender goes in the hole in the driver side head.

So right now the hole by the filter is plugged and the hole buy the dist has a small screw in fitting. Does the sender screw onto this fitting? Do you have a part number for the sender? What color were the wires that went to this sender? I think i cut these off too!!

The hole by the distributor probably has a pipe nipple in it. The factory used a 90 degree elbow screwed onto the nipple, and then the sender screwed into the elbow.

Might want to check the instructions for that Mallory coil. I know that most oil filled coils have to be mounted straight up. If you mount them sideways the winding are exposed and the car may misfire or the coil will overheat and can fail premature
I know that MSD coils have to be mounted vertically. Not sure about Mallorys.
Something to look at.

Where would i be able to pick up that elbow? Is this the sender that i want SMP-PS12 from summit? It looks like it just screws into the block and the fitting can be taken out.
Comp788 i checked the instuctions and it says the Promaster coil can be mounted at any angle

Most of the oil filled coils are sealed and can be mounted in any position, including the MSDs.
That sender might work. You can get the elbow anywhere, it's just a generic brass fitting.

one more question.. i no longer have the computer because it's carbed, do i need the coolent temp sensor or the temp sensor to work with my stock guage in the dash? I believe it's the temp sensor that goes in the drivers side head? where does the coolent temp sensor go or do i not need it?

You need the coolant temperature sender that was in the driver side head. The gauges are independent of the computer so you don't need any other sensors to operate the gauges.

That is what I have read in the MSD instructions as well but the MSD guy at the NHRA national events told me that the instruction are incorrect. He said always to mount them straight up.

I think the wire for my coolant temp gauge goes to the sensor in the drivers side head and is green. All the switch in the head does is ground the wire which pegs the temp gauge.

That is the temp sensor for the gauge. The two pronge is for the computer.
