EGR AND INTAKE
hey guys im sitting here with my 86 iroc-z trying to get past north carolina state inspection. i dont know much about the motor cuz i jsut bought the car like a month ago but its a 350 carburated, edlebroke intake with hooker headers. i failed inspection because the guy said i didnt have an EGR. he said its suspsoed to be bolted onto the intake but the edlebroke doesnt have the mounting spot to get the vacuum it needs. the guy told me i can get a stock intake on there hook up an egr to it and i can pass inspection... was wondering if theres anyway around having to pull the intake off and puting a different one. is there a different way to hook up an egr besides on the intake manifold.
TIA

Well, maybe your not quite getting it...
Theirs no way to pass the inspection without having an EGR valve. Their is no way to put an EGR valve on that intake.
Their are a few routes you can go to pass inspection but they all require ditching that intake. You can either do like he suggested, swap on a stock intake to pass the inspection. Or buy an aftermarket intake that has provisions for EGR, that way your not stuck with a crappy iron intake and you wont have any smog **** problems.

If it is just a visual inspection go somewhere where the guy doesn't look at the car so well if you know what I mean. Ask around. Slip the guy some extra cash. I sure would try this before swapping intakes.

You may be able to put a plate under the carb and hook an EGR valve of some sort to an exhaust source. But, that would be a lot more difficult than putting on an EGR intake manifold.
You only have a safety inspection? EGR doesn't have anything to do with safety.
(Did you buy the car on eBay, by chance?)

yea for NC inspections the car has to have all emssions devices presents(dosnt mean they have to work) but they have to be there hooked up as if they were working.
